He is the grandson of the original immigrant to Canada. His parents Richard and Annah Steacy operated a farm in Warburton. Known as California Steacy, he made his fortune in the California gold rush that started in 1849. He stayed there for several years where he married Eliza (1834-97) and all of his children were born. He was born in 1836 and died 1899.
