Originally born the daughter of the prosperous owner of an iron foundry, Benjamin Graham in 1772 in Waterford County Ireland and died in 1860 in Brockville. She married Dennis Steacy in 1794, and had twelve children before they moved to Canada. Originally, of aristocratic lineage family legends tells the tale that she never had to do housework until she came to Canada. The nickname “Bridget” originated from her being teased about her new duties as “Bridget” was reputed to be a common name for domestic servants.
