Owen Merriman the economist

Owen Merriman was the brother of Walter Henson’s mother. He was a celebrated economist at Queens. He published several books on political economy that are now out of print. Bibilographic information is available from a PHD dissertation.

He is best known for his ability to succeed at his career in spite of a severe disability as he never walked.  He was never married and died childless.  He was an ardent book collector and many his books have been donated to university libraries, although many still reside within the family, including and early edition of the Wealth of Nations.

He was also a ardent lover of birds. In this obituary here , his contribution to Hamilton bird scene dwarfs his importance as an economist, as is the case with the above mentioned thesis.
